Despite the diplomatic overtures of civility that take place in front of the camera, make no mistake about it that global politics is a dog eat dog world. There are 193 member states of the United Nations and 192 of them don’t wake up every morning asking themselves how they can advance the interests of the United States of America. There is but one representative who wakes up with such thoughts and for the past 2 years that has been United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley. When 192 member states awoke to pursue their interests over those of the United States in the dog eat dog world of global politics, Haley was the American bulldog we needed to protect our own. Unashamed, unrelenting and somehow pulling it off with class and dignity, Nikki Haley was perhaps the greatest representation of strength at the United Nations in decades. That is why with heavy heart, Americans take the news that she is stepping down from her role at the United Nations. However, one can be certain that we have not seen the last if Nikki Haley. Strength rarely goes quietly into the night and something tells me she is not quite done with her contributions to the United States of America.
It’s Not About Challenging Trump
Among loyal Trump supporters, there exist a certain fear in the air that Haley is stepping down from her role to take on the President who hired her in 2020. She has stated this is not the case, but the promises of any politician can rarely be treated as the gospel. However, in this case one can feel confident that she is not here to challenge Trump as the man at this point in his administration seems unchallengeable to his Republican base. The economy is roaring, Trump just negotiated NAFTA and has successfully nominated two constitutionalist jurists to the Supreme Court. Apart from a propensity to produce cringe worthy tweets, the GOP and its base feels like it’s winning. It simply isn’t likely that Haley could out primary Trump.
There is, however, a chance that Haley could find her way to the ticket in more ways than one. It has been known that Trump isn’t fairly fond of Mike Pence and that Pence would have a tough road to the White House should he make an attempt in 2024. Haley, however, as Vice President from 2020 to 2024 would be on a blazing path to become the first female President of the United States. Then there is the doomsday scenario. There is exist in the realm of legal possibilities that Donald Trump has indeed run afoul of the law and Mueller has a hammer waiting to drop. Should Trump be ineligible to run in 2020 there will be a scurrying rat race among conservatives to scoop up his supporters for their own run. Haley would do well in such a race.
As Politicians Go Haley is A Ok
Finally, should Haley decide to forgo any role at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue we can still hope that she would offer her strength and dignity to America in another role. She could find herself in the Senate again perhaps holding a place until 2024. She could take on another cabinet role if she chose or perhaps she just rests up to campaign at the time the country needs her most. The truth is that if you are a liberal you may dislike a great deal of her policy positions, but it is hard not to like the woman herself.
Conservatives, on the other hand, have every reason to adore both her positions and personality. Hailing from an immigrant family, she represents the American dream in its perpetuity. Conservatives disliked the election of Barack Obama, but they cannot with any intellectual honesty ignore what a momentous occasion it was for him to be the first African-American elected President. Liberals may dislike the election of a President Haley, but must still offer a salute and a tip of the hat to her as the first female President. As far as politicians go, Nikki Haley is A Ok to the majority of America and we can but hope that we have not seen the last of her.
