It is almost as if Socialism cannot help itself as if there is a component in its DNA that is activated once the guns are gone. History has given us a clear track record as to what happens when the guns are gone. Sadly, modernity is giving us a stark reminder. In 2013, Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez announced gun reforms that required citizens to voluntarily turn in some 15,000 privately owned firearms in the nation. After only 37 were turned in voluntarily the state turned to force. Today, Venezuelan protesters are being shot dead in the streets with nothing but rocks in their hands and empty bellies from food shortages. Meanwhile, in China where guns have long been illegal some one million Chinese Uighur Muslims are being held in concentration camps where they are to be reeducated on how to be a good citizen. In both cases, humans unable to defend their one life they to live against the force of state. In both cases, Socialism’s end game has played out just like history has always told us it would. Once the guns are gone, humanity is subject to the historical evil of Socialism.
The Slippery Slope is Real
Often when debating the dangerous slippery slope that is gun control, proponents will often rebuke the slippery slope analogy as a thinking error. “That doesn’t always happen,” they say. To which I reply, genocide and tyranny happening just once is problem enough. It is happening in Venezuela. It is happening in China. It is happening in Myanmar. It is happening this very minute as you read this article and it can happen in America too. This is not a hypothetical slippery slope. This is the reality both history and now modernity has laid out before us.
An unarmed population is subject to tyrannical whims and always has been. Remarkably, it is those who have been claiming that Donald Trump is a fascist tyrant that seem to be the loudest voices arguing for gun control. That one could claim the President is a tyrant while simultaneously asking to disarm themselves is remarkable. Then again, the human population has fallen for it before and at the core of our DNA we are no different today than we were then.
Tyranny in Modern Times
Perhaps the most chilling case is that which is happening in China today. Their economic prosperity due to their embracing of some free market principles have someone covered up the true nature of this evil. In a Communist or Socialist society, when policies are not working then the problem must be the people rather than the flawed ideology. So China labels “uncooperative” people the problem and is seeking to correct them in what cannot be labeled as anything short of a concentration camp.
There are already reports of forced labor coming out these camps along with the torture and executions one would expect. In Venezuela, protesters are being shot dead in the streets as political opponents are being rounded up by the military. Again, it begs the question as to whether this could happen if the population were armed? At a minimum, citizens could choose to fight whether they win or lose. China and Venezuela are but yet the latest reminders in a long historical record that tells us what happens when the population is significantly unarmed as compared to the government. For them, the slippery slope is real and for America it could be as real too. In a season of American history where Socialism is being embraced by name by one of the largest political parties, the 2nd Amendment means more now than ever.
